TOYS FOR SCARY KIDS

early the next morning–after our triumphant concert in Deland–we woke up to begin our long drive to Athens Georgia. it was cold and surreal. the house looked like some kind of model-home IKEA catalogue, all wall to wall flame retardant carpets and vinyl furniture. i walked into the kitchen and there was the bartender’s large black cat doing his business in the littler box. i looked him over and noticed him staring back. eyes like laser beans. as i walked into the other room preparing to brush my teeth the same large black cat was sitting in ANOTHER litter box, same laser beam stare focused right at me, same business happening on the other end.  it couldn’t have been more than ten or fifteen seconds between the two events. that cat was a quick lttle fucker.

anyway, we drove all the way to Athens where we had smoothies and ate dinner at this really cool place that had old Sci-fi movie posters hanging on the walls. i ate something with an egg on it. later when we got to the club we found out that the headlining band had to cancel the show because someone in their camp got into a car accident. i hope they’re all ok. too bad we had to find out after we had set up all of our equipment and were getting ready to sound check. that was a fucking burn. we stayed up and ate ice cream and watched movies that night. it was like a little girls slumber party. no trashed hotel rooms or drug overdoses. cookies and ice cream cookies and ice cream.

oh well. we’ll give you a pass this time Athens. We’ll be back. But we’re not playing with any damn longhairs!!!!

Other notables from that day:

1) Getting called a faggot by a guy in a pick up truck.

2) Laying eyes upon the ugliest, scariest toys know to man. KIds who play with these toys are not to be trusted.

Our Spinal Tap Moment

deland-vid where are the circus freaks?

we should have known something was seriously wrong when no one in florida knew where the hell deland was. and it’s only twenty minutes northeast of orlando!!

this vid is kinda ‘musing. by the “for the ladies” portion of our set we had cleared the room except for the drunken older woman stumbling around with her glass of red wine (later she would pen an illegible love poem to the bartender on a styrofoam plate). but to be fair what remained of hurricane faye-gola had finally caught up to us.

anyway the bartender let us crash at her house–which was totes sweeties of her–and we were off to Athens early the next morning.

Ahhh Athens . . . memories to last a lifetime (sigh).

HOME!!!

OH YES WE ARE BACK!!!!  I was so tired, I was sleeping for 12 hours or something!  But I have to werk today… : (  But that means I get to eat yummy Vietnamese food for free!!  But I still don’t want to go really.  Anyway, we have a ton of video and pictures to show you, but it’s all spread out all over our computers wherever we had enough memory to put it.  So it may be a few days before we can put it up for you to see!

Oh yeah!  Our van died.  SORRY SYNTH 1!!!  He is still in North Carolina, but it is not over.  We will get him fixed and then he will be back with us!  We almost had to cancel our show in Brooklyn… I hope you could see that show!  We played with The Buddy System and Ruby Isle… It was awesome!  You should definitely check out these two Athens bands.  Next time we are in Athens, we will play with them for sure!!!

Poop.  werk.  poop.

hello from DeLand, FL

SOAP in sarasota was awesome! everyone was dancing & the djs were great. we will post more [better] fun photos & videos once we get back to new york. we’ve been spending most of our time in the car. yesterday we had a break though, and jen & her friends took us to siesta beach where the sand is a white quartz powder & the ocean is warm and a super clear green. the skies were filled with non-hurricane clouds & it was so much fun.

look!

right now we’re in deland at caffe da vinci, which is a pretty cool coffee shop/bar. they have a huge outdoor space filled with all sorts of mismatched, old-looking furniture. it’s too bad it’s pouring outside.

p.s., thank you ed, you are a madman of lighting & video, & tim, a genius of sound. <3 <3 <3 to ESS & Chris also!

Gainesville

Sorry we didn’t play the Jacksonville show!  Club TSI is apparently still closed.

But nevermind that, we’re in Gainesville now with Chris Miller (Electronic SubSouth) and we’re having a blast.

We just watched Flesh Gordon.  That’s right, FLESH (eff-el-EEEE-ess-eich) Gordon.

You all should definitely come to Gainesville and check out an ESS show.  Everyone is “extra” here!

We’ll be posting more pictures and videos soon.  Thank y’all for your support!

DC—oh great…

It is August. This month has many hot days…though not in the last few days…? But, I think it’ll be getting hotter in the south…too bad the a/c in Synth 1 caused the car to start smoking on the way to DC… The best part!! As we were all crowed around our 89 dodge grand caravan, hood up, staring at the smoking old thing…some dude came and begged for gas from us!! LOOK AT WHAT WE’RE DRIVING!! LOOK AT THE CONDITION IT IS IN!!! DO YOU THINK WE HAVE SPARE ANYTHING?!?!

So, no more a/c for this tour. Next!! Chapel Hill, NC
